Professional tacit knowledge sharing in practice. Agency, boundaries, and commitment

Purpose The purpose of this study is to gain insight into the dynamics and considerations professionals regarding sharing tacit, personal knowledge in their practice. Design/methodology/approach Adopting a social-constructivist ontology, qualitative design deploys semi-structured interviews focus groups. Data were coded, analysed through interrelating reasoning. Findings Personal difficult share precisely, but can be shared some extent using reflection stories. Knowledge also provides position professional agency, emphasising boundaries impacting decisions on interaction sharing. As such, commitment vulnerable contextual and, by extension, material becomes part interplay practice collaborative development. Research limitations/implications imply that exchange use present organisations are impacted individual professionals’ autonomy decisions, which consequently impact employees’ This calls for research focuses factors such as autonomy, professionalism attitudes addition organisational facilitative matters. Practical implications Stimulating interpersonal learning matter valuing avoid protectionism, segregated agency. Management should consider how why individuals knowledge, paying attention social structures individuals’ voices objectives forming communities. Originality/value combines concept tacit with younger field theory. By connecting practice, it extends agency world offers more perspective between entities.
